Powerpoints, homework for the weekend

Hey everyone!

So to keep you up to date with our class:

1. Please review the PowerPoints we go over in class. There is a lot of information that I am giving you and a lot of it is probably new. As a result, YOU need to take the time out to read it and understand it. And as always, bring questions to class. So, here is the powerpoint we have been using.

2. Your homework (DUE ON MONDAY)
a. Look at slides 10-21 of the PowerPoint. Each slide has a picture of an activity or a behavior. Please write whether this conforms to gender roles or defies the gender role. Then explain why it does conform or does not. Remember, you are taking about gender, so words like "masculine" and "feminine" should be part of your answer. Although the activity or behavior may not be evident to you at first, think about what is deemed "appropriate" behavior for men and women in our westernized society. Then, see if the male or female is acting appropriately. PLEASE PUT THE ANSWERS IN YOUR NOTEBOOK.

Hey everyone!

Sorry for getting you the homework late, but the car got a flat tire and it took a long time to fix it.

Anyway, instead of a reading, I want you to answer the following questions. This should serve as review for you. Please answer in your notebook and in complete sentences.

1. What is the difference between sex and gender?
2. What is the difference between male/female and masculine/feminine?
3. Why is sex biological and gender social?
4. How is gender a social construct?
5. What is the nature vs. nurture argument in sociology?
6. Give an example of an activity and then explain how it is a female activity and then a feminine activity.


There you go! If you you understand all these questions, it means that you are understanding sociology and how humans create our world rather than just passively live it! You are enjoying the process of deconstructing your reality!
